As a general rule, we've found that every person will experience different coverage rates. The reason for this is that at present it's very difficult to control whether you are applying a 4 mil thick coating or a 7 mil thick coating, even though visually they may appear to be identical. This can mean a big deal over time!
Also, each and every batch of coating will have a unique specific gravity (density) depending on its color and the type of coating which will affect coverage overall. And some porous substrates such as concrete will absorb the powder into its pores which will not translate into a thin, uniform coating in the end. So every situation can be unique in terms of area that can be covered.
As an example though, our most popular coating is X512, and the general coating coverage formula for it is:
170 - 200 square feet per pound per mil thickness
A typical application of X512 will be 5 - 10 mils thick. So if you work it out, an average square foot will require between 0.05 lbs and 0.025 lbs of coating. Check with your distributor for the most up to date price of X512 per pound, and for other coatings please refer to their individual technical data sheets or give us a call for an estimate. |
